He is an expert in large-scale urological tumor surgery and renowned Uro-oncology scientists. Albers and his team of senior doctors have introduced a number of new procedures in diagnostics and therapy, this essentially includes the use of modern methods of "keyhole surgery" in urological tumor surgery. In particular, DaVinci® robot-assisted laparoscopic surgical procedures have been used since 2010 for radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, organ-preserving renal tumor surgery, and urinary tract reconstruction. Furthermore, state-of-the-art laser techniques (holmium lasers) are used for the treatment of kidney stone disorders as well as for the treatment of benign prostate enlargement.
Since June 2012, the department has been a certified prostate cancer center by the German Cancer Society. Furthermore, there is close cooperation with the University Women's Hospital in the pelvic floor center for urinary incontinence diagnostics and therapy. Since 2012, the team has also been supported by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Anja Lorch, an internationally renowned expert in the field of drug tumor therapy for Uro-oncological diseases and head of the department "Conservative Urological Oncology".
For patients with tumors of the urogenital tract, the urological clinic offers several specialist consultations with specialists. These specialized consultations are led by medical specialists who focus on individual tumors, such as the prostate or the bladder. These specialists also provide the majority of medical care for patients during inpatient treatment. They have a pediatric treatment and counseling unit for children who have urological disorders. They also treat erectile dysfunction and fertility disorders. They offer artificial insemination services and the option of microsurgical reconstruction of the spermatic duct which helps castrated men to regain fertility.
There are several rooms with state-of-the-art equipment available for the care of outpatients and inpatients. Smaller procedures such as ultrasound-guided diagnostic tissue removal, endoscopic procedures with state-of-the-art flexible video cystoscopes, X-ray examinations or chemotherapy can be performed on an outpatient basis. A state-of-the-art digital video urodynamic unit is available for the investigation of urinary incontinence or neurogenic bladder voiding disorders. The Department of Urology has 38 beds on 2 stations. The two stations (UR 02 and UR 03) are located on the 1st floor. The patient rooms (single, double and triple) are up-to-date (Internet connection, bathroom in the room) and are spacious and bright, many have a balcony.
