More than 4,000 operations are performed annually at the Department of Dermatology for the treatment of different skin diseases. In addition to surgical interventions, the Department of Dermatology also offers modern non-invasive therapies for the treatment of skin cancer using photodynamic therapy or topical immunomodulators.
The Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf has 55 beds in 4 wards. In addition to inpatient care, the Department of Dermatology also offers daycare. Their outpatient care takes place at the general outpatient clinic, the private outpatient clinic, the allergy outpatient clinic, and the andrological outpatient clinic.
The Department of Dermatology has specialist consultations for patients with skin tumors (malignant melanoma), atopic dermatitis, autoimmune diseases of the skin (lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, dermatomyositis), wound healing disorders, vein disorders, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and, viral diseases of the skin (e.g. warts). There is interdisciplinary co-operation with the children's clinic where a joint consultation is offered twice a week for children with skin problems. In addition, the Department of Dermatology has a phototherapy unit where both diagnostic and therapeutic light irradiations are performed. In addition to the light therapy of psoriasis, a focus is the diagnosis of sun allergies and photosensitivity.
In addition to the treatment of skin diseases, they also treat aging signs of the skin such as wrinkle removal. As part of cosmetic dermatology, the Department of Dermatology offers a variety of modern procedures. In addition to surgical measures, various laser therapies, and chemical peels, injections with botulinum toxin are used.
