Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospital Cologne provides care for women during their reproductive period, pregnant women as well as newborns. The gynecological unit offers the latest diagnostics and therapeutics for uterine, cervical, and ovarian cancer as well as degenerative and inflammatory diseases. The department is one of the first facilities in Germany to be certified by the German Cancer Society for gynecological cancer. Breast cancer is one of the main concerns of the facility as it offers diagnosis, surgical removal, breast reconstruction, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Peter Mallmann, the medical staff treats more than 6,300 inpatients every year. The obstetric unit consists of four newly-renovated rooms with the latest technology to ensure the safe, septic delivery of healthy newborns as well as childcare.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospital Cologne is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of:

  • 1977-1983 study of human medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitt in Bonn.
  • 1983–1988 Research Assistant at the University Women's Clinic in Bonn
  • 1984-1995 head of the laboratory for tumor and reproductive immunology at the University Women's Clinic in Bonn
  • 1985 PhD with “magna cum laude” on the immunology of cervical carcinoma.
  • 1989 specialist certification in gynecology and obstetrics
  • 1989–1993 Senior Physician at the University Women's Clinic in Bonn.
  • 1993–1995 Senior Consultant at the University Women's Clinic in Bonn.
  • 1991 Habilitation on the immunology of breast cancer.
  • 1996 appointment to the chair and director of Clinic and polyclinic for gynecology and obstetrics at the University Hospital Cologne
