Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University Hospital Cologne provides surgical care for patients of all ages with congenital and acquired heart and lung diseases. The department is highly-ranked in Germany for the treatment of congenital and acquired heart defects as it performs over 2,800 operations every year, 1,700 of which with heart-lung machines. The German Society of Cardiology has certified the facility as a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Center.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Thorsten Wahlers, the medical team treats about 2,500 inpatients every year, many of which are for the treatment of coronary heart disease through heart bypass surgery.

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University Hospital Cologne is specialized in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of:
