Department of Plastic, Hand and Severe Burn Surgery at University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum provides surgical care for deformities, tumors as well as burns. It has a great reputation and earned the name of the largest Reference Center for Soft Tissue Sarcomas in all of Germany. 
The medical team of doctors and surgeons of the department follows the latest national and international guidelines and works in close cooperation with the Departments of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and Neurosurgery as well as radiologists, pathologists, and oncologists of surrounding specialized centers to provide patients with a tailor-made management plan. 
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Markcus Lehnhardt, the department of Plastic, Hand, and Severe Burn Surgery at University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum treats over 4,000 sarcoma patients and 1,500 inpatients of various other diseases annually. The department is a leading center in its field and its Burns Unit is the oldest of its kind in Germany since it was established in 1968. The department has special attention directed towards the treatment of chronic lymphedema through new microsurgical techniques.
