Department of Neurology at University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum provides care for patients with acute and chronic diseases of central and peripheral nervous systems. The department offers its service on both inpatient and outpatient basis and it is also equipped with the latest therapeutic as well as early rehabilitation equipment and techniques for early restoration of body functions. The department is considered to be an established multiple sclerosis center and it also consists of a supra-regional certified muscle center where congenital and acquired muscle diseases are studied, diagnosed, and treated. 
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Martin Tegenthoff, the department of Neurology at University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum treats over 1,400 inpatients every year. Dr. Tegenthoff has been recognized by FOCUS Magazine as one of the best physicians in the field of pain therapy in Germany. The department is in close cooperation with the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurotraumatology and has a specialized clinic for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis where a team of neuropsychologists, physiotherapists, and physicians work with the doctors and nursing staff to provide optimal care for patients.
