Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum provides care for patients with diseases of the digestive tract and liver. It offers its inpatient and outpatient service for the treatment of metabolic, infectious, inflammatory, neoplastic, and autoimmune diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines as well as the liver and biliary system. The department works in close cooperation with specialized centers and hospitals and follows the national and international guidelines to offer latest innovative treatment plan to the patients.
The department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum has 40 beds where 1,250 inpatients are treated every year under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Wolff Schmiegel. The gastroenterology unit works in cooperation with the Comprehensive Cancer Center of the Ruhr University of Bochum and has a special attention directed towards malignant tumors of the digestive organs and tract.
