The Department of internal medicine III at the University Hospital Ulm provides accurate diagnostics and effective treatment of hematological, oncological (benign and malignant blood pathologies) rheumatic and infectious diseases. The department also provides palliative care to the terminally ill patients which is aimed at relieving pain and improving the quality of life. The department under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Hartmut Döhnerhave possesses unique clinical skills and extensive experience, leading to high treatment success rates.

The department of oncology ranks among the best medical institutions in Germany and is certified by the German Cancer Society and the German Cancer Aid.

Each clinical case is considered on regular interdisciplinary tumor board, after which an individual treatment strategy is developed taking into account all the diagnostic results, disease stage, general patient's health, age, etc. All the treatment concepts comply with current national and international standards.

Most often, in the treatment of cancer, doctors use conventional chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy with antibodies, as well as innovative forms of therapy, for example, the use of mitosis and signaling pathway inhibitors.

The department works in close cooperation with hematologists and oncologists from other specialized hospitals.

The division of rheumatology along with the treatment of rheumatological diseases also treats patients with unclear illnesses suspected of having a rheumatic disease. The clinic offers patients new innovative therapy concepts with modern anti-rheumatic drugs.
