Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Pulmonology (Internal medicine II)

The Department of internal medicine II at the university hospital of Ulm focuses on Cardiology, Angiology, Pulmonology, Internal Emergency, and Intensive Care Medicine, and Sports and Rehabilitation Medicine.

The division of Cardiology, Angiology and Internal Intensive Care at the University Hospital Ulm offers counseling, diagnostics, and treatment in cardiovascular diseases. The department also specializes in the valvular diseases of the heart,  arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, congestive cardiac failure and congenital heart defects.

The department ranks among the leaders in the minimally invasive treatment of heart valve defects in Germany. The catheter techniques are extensively used in aortic valve replacement and they are the standard method for progressive aortic stenosis treatment (transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)).

The department of internal medicine II puts great efforts in constant search of new progressive treatment methods. The world's first cryoballoon ablation (to treat atrial fibrillation) was performed by the doctors of the cardiological department at the university hospital of Ulm.

The division of pulmonology covers the entire spectrum of pulmonary medicine and treat patients with pneumonia, asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep apnea syndrome.

The pulmonological division also has great experience and clinical expertise in the treatment of lung cancer.
