Department of Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine at University Hospital Bonn is a quarter of the Center of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UKB. The department offers care for women who have high-risk pregnancies and for the newborns in their first week. This department was recognized as one of the top facilities of its kind in Germany by FOCUS Magazine.
The department provides a prenatal program for pregnant women to ensure early diagnosis of conditions that categorizes the pregnancy as a high-risk pregnancy. Newborns with malformations are surgically treated in the Fetal Surgery Unit.
Under the guidance of one of the top doctors in Germany in this field, Prof. Dr. med. Ulrich Gembruch, more than 2,000 babies are born and 1,000 newborns with fetal malformations are treated there every year. This department is in collaboration with the Department of Neonatology and Intensive Care to ensure the best care for babies with congenital malformations and for premature newborns. Cooperation with pediatric departments is provided when needed.
