Department of Nuclear Medicine

Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Bonn uses nuclear methods for the diagnosis and treatment of tumors and certain neurological and hormonal disorders. This department was established in 1951 and now, its work has been such a positive contribution that it’s a pioneer in its specialization in Germany. The department offers new and innovative treatment methods for the treatment of various cancers such as the Lutetium- 177 PSMA therapy for prostate cancer which improves the prognosis and can be used in more advanced stages than the previous therapies. 
The department treats more than 800 inpatients every year under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Markus Essler. Nuclear Medicine is known for its focus on thyroid diseases and this department has it as the main priority. The Thyroid Center of the Department of Nuclear Medicine is in cooperation with Radiology Center and has the medical staff which is specialized in the treatment of Graves’ disease, thyrotoxicosis, thyroid cancer and all types of thyroiditis.
