Department of Neurology at University Hospital Bonn provides care for patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases. The department is recognized by FOCUS Magazine as one of the top facilities of its kind. The department consists of two stations. Station 1 consists of neuromuscular, neurodegenerative and sleep laboratory units which all sums up to 27 beds. Station 2 has a private unit and a legally insured one. This station’s main focus is Parkinson’s disease. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Thomas Klockgeter, more than 3,000 inpatients are treated in this department every year.
This department has a special feature which is neuro-oncology. It’s one of the top institutions of neuro-oncology in Germany and certified by the German Cancer Society. The department works in close cooperation with the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiotherapy, and Internal Oncology to formulate a management plan for brain, meningeal and spinal cord tumors. The clinical treatment and research center of the UKB, the Center for Rare Diseases and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases all work together with this department for diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders, specifically. 
The department has a special focus directed towards Vascular Neurology. This unit treats diseases of the blood vessels supplying the brain. The main concern of this unit is the treatment of stroke and reducing complications as much as possible. To ensure optimal care for patients with complex conditions, the department formulates close cooperation with the Department of Cardiology of the University Hospital Bonn, the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and the Department of Epileptology.
