Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at University Medical Center Göttingen is an interdisciplinary center that provides the full range of medical care for infants, children, and adolescents. The facility is composed of many specialized departments that are all equipped with the latest, most advanced technology and staffed carefully and especially for their specialties. The General Pediatrics department directs its significant focus on general health conditions affecting this age group such as headaches, fever, skin diseases as well as infectious diseases. The General Pediatrics station includes the Departments of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Nephrology, Pediatric Psychosomatic Medicine, and Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology.
Congenital and acquired pathologies of the central and peripheral nervous systems such as epilepsy, brain tumors, and inflammatory disorders are all treated in the Neuropediatrics station. The Pediatric Hematology and Oncology unit has been established to manage conditions such as neuroblastomas, hemophilia, leukemia, and bone tumors since certain types of malignant diseases are more common among children and adolescents than adults. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Jutta Gärtner, the medical staff treats over 4,100 inpatients annually as they work in close cooperation with the Department of General, Visceral, and Pediatric Surgery to offer surgical treatment measures.
