Department of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Medicine at University Hospital Stuttgart, located at the Katharinen Hospital, offers the full range of care for diseases of the blood, solid and soft tissue tumors. The department is one of the most efficient facilitates in Baden- Württemberg to offer the latest, most advanced hemato-oncological diagnostics and therapeutics. The clinic offers its medical service in both an inpatient and outpatient basis as it has 75 inpatient beds and 26 outpatient treatment units where 3,500 patients are treated every year.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Gerald Illerhaus, the department has achieved impressive success in the treatment of lymphomas and leukemias as well as blood stem cell transplantation, both autologous and allogenic. The Palliative Medicine unit consists of 14 beds where a special medical team offers interdisciplinary care for terminally ill patients.  The medical staff works in close cooperation with specialists of the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Geriatrics as well as experts of the Stuttgart Cancer Center (SCC) - Eva Mayr-Stihl Tumor Center to provide a tailor-made, comprehensive treatment plan for the elderly.
