Department of Ear, Nose & Throat Diseases and Plastic Surgery at University Hospital Stuttgart, located both in the Catherine Hospital and the Olga Hospital, is one of the leading supra-regional facilities that offer the full range of care for patients with diseases of the ear, nose, throat as well as malignancies of the head and neck. The department has achieved excellent results in the fields of middle ear surgery, cochlear implants, implantable hearing aids, and upper respiratory tract pathologies, for both children and adults.
The facility offers lifelong, comprehensive care on both an inpatient and outpatient basis for all ages through the interdisciplinary team of doctors, audiologists, therapists, and technicians. The Pediatric Audiology and Phoniatry unit at the Olga Hospital is concerned primarily with the early detection and management of childhood hearing disorders, including speech and swallowing therapy and rehabilitation. The Stuttgart Cochlear Implant Center offers cochlear implantation as well as care with active, partially implantable hearing systems.
Under the management of Prof. Dr. Christian Sittel, the staff treats over 6,500 inpatients annually in the six state-of-the-art operating theaters and the general wards that have a bed capacity of 72 beds. The department has ten examination units where about 7,000 diagnostic procedures, such as endoscopy, stroboscopy, sonography, audiometry, and vestibular examination are carried out every year.
