Department of Ophthalmology

The staff of the Department of Ophthalmology at the university hospital Recht der Isar has many years of experience in the treatment of eye diseases. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Chris P. Lohmann and has around 31 medical staff which provides high-quality ophthalmological care. The department offers therapeutic services for almost all diseases of the anterior and posterior segments, but their main focus is on retinal and vitreous surgery; corneal disorders; lens surgery and intravitreal injection. 

The department partakes in interdisciplinary collaboration with experts from other medical fields. This interdisciplinary approach is the hallmark of Rechts der Isar hospital and guarantees the patients a comprehensive holistic therapy tailored to their needs.

The department of Ophthalmology at the university hospital Recht der Isar treats around 2,500 outpatients annually and around 25,000 outpatients with more than 60,000 visits. There are two stations with 24 beds, three operating theatres and two operating rooms with the latest generation of equipment. The department has a wide range of diagnostic devices, from simple “field of view” devices to retinal cameras, fluorescence angiography, and OCT angiography.
The department also has special outpatient clinics for various diseases. Some of them include the glaucoma department or the ZIMT, the center for intravitreal injections. 

 The department of Ophthalmology at the university hospital Recht der Isar is specialized in:

  • Treatment of diseases of the cornea such as infections or injuries. 
  • Surgical therapy for the cornea such as Corneal transplants, amniotic membrane sutures or cross-linking.
