Department of Otolaryngology

Department of Otolaryngology at University Hospital Mannheim provides care for patients with ear, nose, and throat diseases and surgical treatment of head and neck malignancies. The department mainly focuses on microsurgery of the ear, operative tumor therapy, reconstructive surgery of the head and neck as well as the nose, paranasal sinus, and skull base surgery and it is also certified by the Society of Skull Base Surgery and the German Cancer Society for the treatment of head and neck tumors.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Nicole Rotter, the department treats over 3,850 inpatients every year, almost 1,000 of which suffer from a sleep disorder. The department is an accredited Sleep Medicine Center as it has a developed Sleep Laboratory since 1993 where over 7,000 inpatient and outpatient sleep studies have been performed. The department offers the CRAP therapy for the natural breathing of the patient as well as surgical procedures for the removal of obstructions of the airway.
