Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at University Hospital Mannheim provides surgical care for patients with diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. It has been recognized by the FOCUS Magazine as one of the top facilities for its specialization in Germany. The department is mainly concerned with tumor orthopedics, hand and foot surgery, joint preserving surgery, arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive orthopedic surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, spine surgery, trauma surgery as well as arthroplasty. The department is equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of musculoskeletal diseases.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Sascha Gravius, the department treats over 2,500 inpatients every year, many of which suffer from intracranial injuries. The department has a special unit concerned with pediatric orthopedics that offers consultation, outpatient treatment, as well as surgical treatment to over 1,500 patients every year.
