Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at University Hospital Mannheim provides care for patients with reproductive organ diseases, pregnant women as well as newborns. The department work in cooperation with specialized centers that are certified by the German Cancer Center such as the Pelvic Floor Center Mannheim, Breast Center Mannheim as well as Gynecological Cancer Center Rhein-Neckar. The department is fully equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of inflammatory, neoplastic, and infectious diseases of the female reproductive organs and breast. The department takes pride in its keyhole surgery where gynecological diseases are treated with minimally invasive procedures and it is also known for its Endometriosis Center where modern therapeutic concepts for the management of endometriosis are applied by expert doctors and nursing staff.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Marc Sütterlin, the department treats more than 6,000 inpatients every year. In the field of obstetrics, the department takes good care of pregnant women in terms of management of healthy pregnancy as well as early detection of high-risk ones and management of those as well and also it has a Perinatal Center where multiple delivering rooms are well-supplied with the required equipment as well as a birth pool for mothers with the preferred birthing plan. Over 1,150 births take place at the department every year. The department also has a Fertility Center where fertility disorders are treated for both men and women.
