Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Infectious Diseases at University Hospital Mannheim provides care for patients with diseases of the digestive tract and liver. The department is certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology for its efforts and success in the field of management of various digestive and infectious diseases. The department, alongside the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute and St. Mary’s Hospital, is the maximum care center in the region of Lampertheim and also it has some centers of excellence in some specializations such as inflammatory bowel diseases, liver disease, infectious diseases, and cancer of the digestive organs and geriatric oncology.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Matthias Ebert, the department treats over 2,500 inpatients every year, many of which are patients with gallstones. The department is fully equipped with cutting-edge technology for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases and it is involved in the PROMISE Initiative for cancer patients.
