Department of Cardiology, Angiology, and Pulmonology at University Hospital Mannheim provides care for patients with heart, blood, lung, and vascular diseases. The department directs special attention towards the management of cardiac diseases such as the diagnosis and treatment of congenital cardiac arrhythmia, interventional treatment of aortic valve stenosis, and the electrical treatment of heart failure. The department is a member of the German Heart Foundation and the Center for Rare Diseases and it also has a Chest Pain Unit which is certified by the German Society of Cardiology.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Martin Borggrefe, the department treats over 4,100 inpatients every year, over 450 of which suffer from some sort of cardiac arrhythmia. FOCUS Magazine has recognized Dr. Borggrefe as one of the best cardiologists in Germany for the year 2019. The research unit of the department works in the Study Center on many projects such as diagnostic parameters in Brugada syndrome, ventricular fibrillation, ion channel disorders, and Short QT syndrome as it is a member of the German Center for Cardiovascular Research.
