Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Salmai Turial was born in Afghanistan in 1968 and studied medicine at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. He completed his work as an assistant doctor in the Clinic for Pediatric Surgery (under the direction of Prof. Dr. Winfried Wagemann) and at the Center for Surgery of the Medical Faculty of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Here he also received his specialist certification for pediatric surgery.

From 2002, Dr. Turial worked as a senior physician and permanent representative of the clinic director at the clinic for pediatric surgery in Hildesheim and from 2004 as deputy clinic director at the Mainz University Medical Center (director: Prof. Felix Schier). Most recently, private lecturer Turial worked as director of the clinic for pediatric surgery and congenital malformations at the Helios Dr. Horst Schmidt clinics in Wiesbaden.

Privatdozent Turial looks back on many years of experience and commitment in the field of pediatric and adolescent surgery at an international level. In 2011 he completed his habilitation in pediatric surgery at the Mainz University Medical Center.

Turial's work in minimally and micro-invasive pediatric surgery, especially in premature and newborn babies, is at the highest level in a global comparison. He has also made a name for himself throughout Germany as a specialist in the care of patients with funnel and keel breasts.

In the past 20 years, Privatdozent Turial has not only treated many children from war zones but also worked on-site as a surgeon. He sees it as a very important contribution to train pediatric surgical colleagues from other countries around the world in minimally invasive techniques. That is why he has carried out demonstration operations and advanced training programs in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kosovo, and Slovakia.

The scientific focus of Privatdozent Turial lies in the area of ??minimally invasive pediatric surgery (microlaparoscopy in childhood including the development of new surgical techniques and new instruments) as well as premature and neonatal surgery. A special area of ??research includes the diagnosis and treatment of Hirschsprung's disease (defective structure of the intestinal nervous system). The local pediatric surgery department also aims to research the causes of chest wall deformities in children and adolescents.
