Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at University Hospital Magdeburg provides care for both inpatients and outpatients with ear, nose, and throat diseases as well as surgical treatment of malignancies of the head and neck. The department is composed of general wards, a diagnostics unit, a workplace for Phoniatrics and Audiology, a Cochlear Implantation Center as well as the Department of Experimental Audiology.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Arens, the medical staff treats over 2,750 inpatients in the three general wards that have 52 beds every year. The surgical team has achieved impressive results by performing adenoidectomy, small biopsy, otoplasty, and scar corrections. The research unit has various research projects going, for example, a project for the diagnosis of dysphonia using voice analysis and the development of new endoscopes for minimally invasive surgery for diseases of the upper airway.
