Department of Orthopedics at University Hospital Magdeburg provides surgical care for patients with acute and chronic diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. FOCUS Magazine has recognized the department as one of the top medical facilities in Germany, especially in the fields of Arthroplasty, Foot Surgery, Elbow Surgery, and Hip Surgery. The facility is a certified center by the German Society of Orthopedics and Accident Surgery, as well as by the German Society for Arthroplasty and endoCert as an Arthroplasty Center of Maximum Care.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Christoph H. Lohmann, the medical staff performs 3,700 operations and treats over 2,400 inpatients every year in the four state-of-the-art operating theaters and the general wards as they have a bed capacity of 95 beds. The clinic has achieved impressive results in the surgical treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, tumors of the bone and soft tissues, as well as sports injuries due to the collaboration with the Olympic Training Center in Magdeburg/Halle for the medical care of athletes. The research unit also earned a certification of the German Society of Orthopedics and Accident Surgery for its research projects.
