Department of Neurology
Department of Neurology at University Hospital Magdeburg provides care for patients with diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system, as well as some muscle disorders. FOCUS Magazine has recognized the department as one of the best of its kind in Germany as it has cutting-edge equipment for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The staff works in close cooperation with the Departments of Stereotactic Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology for the management of stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and chronic pain syndrome.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Jochen Heinze, the facility has 54 beds that are occupied by 2,100 inpatients every year. The specialized Stroke Unit is a member of the Magdeburg Stroke Center and has nine specialized, fully prepared for the treatment of 500 patients with cerebrovascular diseases every year.
