Department of Endocrinology, Nephrology, and Rheumatology at University Hospital Leipzig provides care for patients with diseases of the endocrine glands, kidneys as well as systemic rheumatic diseases. The department is a recognized center of maximum care where even genetic disorders are diagnosed and treated. The department is in close cooperation with other specialized centers for endocrinology and nephrology to ensure patients get optimal care for their condition. The department also offers all types of dialysis as well as kidney transplantation as it is in cooperation with the Transplant Center. The dialysis unit is in close integration with the dialysis center of KfH Liebigstraße.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Michael Stumvoll, the department treats over 2,000 inpatients every year. The department works within the Rheumatology Center of Leipzig where acute and chronic systemic rheumatic diseases are diagnosed and treated with cutting-edge equipment. The research unit of the department is working towards improving the technology of the diagnostics and therapeutics as well as getting a better grasp of the disease mechanism which helps in preventive measures development.
