Department of Pediatric Cardiology at University Hospital Heidelberg provides care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart defects. The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory of the department is an advanced unit with the latest diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of congenital cardiovascular diseases. The department offers care through an outpatient clinic, inpatient wards, and an intensive care unit. A special feature of the department is the option to perform fetal cardiac correction procedures in the womb.
Under the guidance of Prof. Matthias Gorenflo, the staff, in cooperation with the surgeons of the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, treats about 750 inpatients every year. The department is in close cooperation with the University Women’s Hospital for the early detection of defects that might lead to fetal heart failure.
