Department of Neurosurgery

Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Heidelberg provides surgical care for patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases. The department consists of general wards as well as five operating rooms where nearly 12,000 patients are treated and over 3,400 operations are carried out every year, respectively. As a part of the Neuro Center and one of the pioneering centers in Europe, all units of the department are equipped with cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Andreas Unterberg, the staff makes exceptional results regarding brain tumor surgery, vascular surgery, and pediatric neurosurgery. The research unit of the department works in cooperation with the National Center for Tumor Diseases and the German Cancer Research Center.
