Department of Urology
Department of Urology at University Hospital Halle (Saale) provides surgical care for patients with urinary and male genital systems diseases. The department is recognized by FOCUS Magazine to be one of the best facilitates for the treatment of prostate cancer in Germany. Special attention is directed towards the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the urinary system. The cooperation with other university departments provides the multifaceted approach for oncology which ensures optimal care for each patient. The department also offers the latest diagnostics and therapeutics for prostatic cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Paolo Fornara, the department of urology treats more than 3,000 inpatients every year. A special feature of the department is their experience and success in the field of kidney transplantation. It has a specialized Kidney Transplant Center which was established in 1974 and is performing the surgery using the Da Vinci Robotic System making it only the second institution to do so in Germany. The department has performed nearly 2,000 kidney transplants over the years from alive and deceased donors.
