Department of Obstetrics

Department of Obstetrics at University Hospital Halle (Saale) provides prenatal, natal and postnatal care for newborns as well as care for pregnant women. The department is one of the top-ranked Level I Perinatal Centers in Germany. The department has a Fetal Surgery Center specialized for operations on newborns. The department is one of the few facilities that perform intrauterine interventions for conditions such as feto-fetal transfusion syndrome and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. With Prof. Dr. Med. Michael Tschirikov as the head of the department, the department of obstetrics and perinatal medicine delivers nearly 1,000 newborns and treats more than 3,000 inpatients every year.
