Department of Nephrology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, and Metabolic Diseases at University Hospital Halle (Saale) provides care for patients with diseases affecting respective organs and systems. The department has the latest cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics for kidney diseases, diabetes, and rheumatological diseases. The therapeutic measures taken by the qualified medical team are all according to international standards. The department also offers transplantation surgeries for patients with end-stage kidney diseases. More than 50 kidney transplantation operations are performed every year with a collaboration with the Department of Urology. 
Under the leadership of  Prof. Dr. med. Matthias Girndt the department treats more than 2,360 inpatients every year. The rheumatology unit of the department is specialized in rheumatic diseases as well as autoimmune disorders. The research unit of the department has studies going on renal anemia, cardiorenal syndrome, and bone metabolism disorders.
