Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Pulmonology at University Hospital Halle (Saale) provides care for patients with diseases affecting the digestive tract, biliary tract, liver, pancreas, and lungs. The department is recognized as one of the best medical facilities in Germany of its specialization by FOCUS Magazine. The department offers the latest state-of-the-art diagnostics especially endoscopic and ultrasound equipment. The main focus of the gastroenterological unit of the department is the treatment of gastrointestinal tumors with the help of innovative methods such as radiofrequency thermal ablation and transarterial chemoembolization.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Patrick Michl, the department treats more 2,300 inpatients every year. The department takes a special interest in the field of pulmonology and treating patients with the latest and innovative treatment methods for chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases as well as lung cancer. The department has a great staff of pulmonologists, oncologists, surgeons and radiologists who all work together in developing a management plan which is tailor-made for each patient. The department is a member of the Center of Excellence for Pulmonary Hypertension and is a certified Cystic Fibrosis Center.
