Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at University Hospital Essen provides care for patients with musculoskeletal diseases or injuries requiring surgeries. The department has an Accident Surgical Emergency Room, also known as Shock Room, where multiple patients can be treated and cared for simultaneously. A room with the latest imaging equipment and 2 operating theaters are close-by to ensure the availability of the needed care. The department provides treatment for about 14,000 inpatients and outpatients every year. It is identified as a Trauma Center and certified for complex procedures.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Marcus Jäger, the department offers reconstructive surgeries for defects caused by serious bone infection, accidents or tumor operations. Hand and spine surgeries are also performed in this department as well as joint replacement procedures as the department is a certified Endoprosthesis Center. The most advanced diagnostics and therapeutics are used by skilled, experienced doctors for the restoration of bone and soft tissues affected in traumas.
The department offers treatment for child and adolescent patients as it is certified for Pediatric Orthopedics. Tumors, inflammation and congenital defects are all treated with the help of state-of-the-art equipment. Being in cooperation with Pediatric and Adolescent Departments ensures the best possible management plan for young patients.
