Department of Nuclear Medicine

Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Essen uses nuclear approaches for diagnosis and treatment of tumors and some neurological disorders. This department has been originally established in 1950 making it one of the oldest nuclear medicine departments in Germany. Using the state-of-the-art radiochemical diagnostics and therapeutics, the department treats nearly 900 inpatients every year. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Ken Herrmann, the department conducts research activities on diagnosis and treatment of thyroid, liver and neuroendocrine tumors by radioactive methods. All researches usually follow the Guidelines of Good Clinical Practice and the International Harmonization Conference.

  • 2012 - 2016 Managing Senior Physician and Deputy Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospital Würzburg.
  • 2015 - 2016 Assistant Professor and Head of the Ahmanson Translational Imaging Division at the University of California, Los Angeles.
  • Since 2016 to the present time, Associate Professor at the University of California in Los Angeles.
  • Since 2016 Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospital Essen.
