Department of Neurosurgery

Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Essen provides care for patients with neurological disorders and tumors of the central and peripheral nervous system requiring surgical intervention. This department has been identified by FOCUS magazine as one of the top hospitals in Germany for 2 subsequent years, 2018 and 2019. The department is also certified by the German Tumor Center and NCAFW for neuro-oncology. It’s located at the heart of Ruhr and is one of the biggest institutions for neurosurgery in Germany. The department offers special care programs for the children and adolescents as well as consultation for German and international patients. 
The department consists of 10 beds in the intensive care unit and another 10 as intermediate care beds where patients are monitored and cared for pre- and post-surgery. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Ulrich Sure, the department treats about 2,000 inpatients annually. The department has cutting-edge equipment, qualified surgeons and medical staff that allows them to performs nearly 2,500 procedures every year.
