Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases at University Hospital Essen provides care for patients with hormonal and metabolic disorders. The department is a care center for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 1, Type 2, gestational and post-organ transplantation DM. It is also certified by the German Diabetes Association. Patients with tumors are being treated with exceptional care as the department is in cooperation with the Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as the Neuroendocrine Cancer Center.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Dagmar Führer, the department treats more than 1,300 inpatients every year. The department has a qualified research team that conducts researches on thyroid hormones, disorders and tumors. It is one of the largest centers for endocrine tumors in Germany. Impressive contributions were made by this department on secondary hypertension induced by hormone imbalance.
