Department of Cardiology and Angiology

Department of Cardiology and Angiology at University Hospital Essen provides care for patients with cardiovascular diseases. The department is in cooperation with the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery and is divided into different centers to ensure optimum care for each patient. The department has a Leading Medicine Guide Certificate as well as recognition from FOCUS magazine for the year of 2018 and 2019 as one of the top facilities of its kind in Germany.
The department consists of 2 stations where standard cardiological care is provided for the full spectrum of heart and vascular diseases, 1 station where highly experienced doctors and nurses take care of patients with advanced heart failure, 1 Angiological station where central and peripheral vascular diseases are being treated and lastly a Chest Pain unit for life-threatening diseases and extremely ill patients. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Tienush Rassaf, more than 3,500 inpatients and 8,000 outpatients are treated every year by the qualified medical staff which consists of 9 senior doctors, 25 assistant physicians, and 96 nurses.
