Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at University Hospital Erlangen provides care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired diseases. The department consists of various specialized units where experienced doctors and nursing staff are qualified to manage any case including the complex cases where the interdisciplinary centers collaborate with other centers such as the Perinatal Center, Epilepsy Center and the Cancer Center in the interest of patient’s health. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics for early detection and effective treatment of diseases.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Wolfgang Rascher, the department treats over 5,000 patients on an inpatient basis every year. The department is well known for its hematology and oncology unit, where they perform stem cell transplantation if needed. As for pediatric neurology, the department is in close cooperation with the Department of Neurosurgery for the early effective treatment of patients with epilepsy and brain tumors. The nephrology unit of the department, in cooperation with the Department of Urology and offers complete care for children with kidney diseases, it also offers kidney transplantation.
