Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Erlangen offers its radioisotope-fueled diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of thyroid diseases and tumors. The department directs a special focus on imaging diagnostics such as PET/CT and SPECT/CT. It also takes pride in its therapeutic approaches such as peptide radioreceptor therapy which is effective in the management of neuroendocrine tumors as well as the PSMA therapy for the treatment of prostate cancer.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Torsten Kuwert, the department treats more than 310 inpatients every year. Most of the patients suffer from thyroid diseases as nuclear medicine approaches are highly effective in the treatment of benign and malignant thyroid diseases. The department also has an in-house Laboratory where thyroid hormone and antibody tests are performed.
