Department of Neurology
Department of Neurology at University Hospital Erlangen provides care for patients with acute and chronic diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. The department works in close cooperation with the Departments of Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology. A special focus of the department is directed towards the treatment of cerebral stroke in the Stroke Unit, which is considered to be the biggest stroke unit in Bavaria and one of the largest in Germany. It also has an Epilepsy Center for the diagnosis and effective management of all types of epilepsy. FOCUS Magazine has recognized the department as one of the best facilities of its kind to treat Parkison’s disease and multiple sclerosis in Germany.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Stefan Schwab, the department offers its service on both an inpatient and outpatient basis where over 3,500 inpatients and 7,000 outpatients are treated every year. The outpatient clinic has a special focus directed towards the treatment of multiple sclerosis, neuro-immunological diseases, epilepsy, movement disorders, dementias, and tumors of the nervous system.
