Department of Hematology and Oncology

Department of Hematology and Oncology at University Hospital Erlangen provides care for patients with congenital and acquired blood diseases as well as neoplastic pathologies. The department has a special focus directed towards the management of acute and chronic leukemia as well as lymphoma and other solid tumors. It is fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, both diagnostic and therapeutic, for the early detection and effective treatment of such diseases. The department offers its service on both an outpatient and inpatient basis where even allogeneic transplantations are performed along with chemotherapy and infusion therapy.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Andreas Mackensen, the department treats about 1,500 inpatients every year, 250 of which suffer from lymphoma. The research unit of the department is putting much effort into its ongoing projects which include clinical immunotherapy trials in patients with malignancies as well as basic research projects on the molecular causes of leukemia.
