Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at University Hospital Erlangen provides care for female patients in their reproductive period and pregnancy as well as newborns. FOCUS Magazine has considered the department as one of the best facilities for newborns care as well as the management of breast cancer as the department is one of the biggest institutions of its kind in Germany. Early detection of high-risk pregnancy and the management of it, along with treatment of hormonal imbalance are fields in which the department specializes in. One of the main concerns of the department is the management of reproductive organ tumors.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Matthias W. Beckmann, the department treats over 27,000 outpatients and 9,000 inpatients every year. The department is a certified Center for Perinatal Medicine, Reproductive Medicine, and Urinary and Pelvic Disorders. The department has state-of-the-art equipment for early detection and effective treatment of many gynecologic diseases such as endometriosis. For its efforts in this field, it has been recognized as a valid Endometriosis Center. The department also offers psychological support for patients with cancer as well as mothers during pregnancy and postpartum. In the field of obstetrics, the department offers the whole spectrum of prenatal examinations to monitor pregnancies.
