Department of Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, and Endocrinology at University Hospital Erlangen provides care for patients with diseases of the stomach, intestines, lung, and liver. The department offers its service on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Alongside the general wards, the department has an intensive care unit and an emergency unit which are fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics and follows the latest guidelines for the management of various diseases. For gastroenterology, the experienced doctors of the department have endoscopic procedures as the main focus for both diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The department is certified by the DIN ISO 9001:2008 and has a great reputation in the early detection of cancerous tumors as the doctors use stunning high-resolution endoscopic techniques for the identification of various neoplasms. It also covers liver diseases such as hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, and tumors.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Markus F. Neurath, the department treats over 5,000 inpatients every year. The pulmonology unit offers its top-notch care for patients with various lung diseases such as asthma, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). As for endocrinology, metabolic disorders and hormonal imbalance are the main focus of this unit as well as neuroendocrine tumors and diabetes mellitus are treated with utmost care.
