The University Hospital Düsseldorf’s Department of cardiac surgery has a long and successful track record internationally. Since 1938, more than 50,000 heart operations have been conducted in the department of cardiac surgery. Some of their groundbreaking achievements include the first minimally invasive replacement of a heart valve and the first implantation of a pacemaker and cardioverter-defibrillator system in Germany.
The Cardiosurgery department is well-equipped for the care of patients after extended surgery or in critical condition: both the operating theatres and the intensive care unit are equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology.
An inpatient cardiovascular department specializing in the care of perioperative cardiac surgery patients undertakes continuous cardiac monitoring before, during and after surgery.
The department in close interdisciplinary cooperation with other departments and has joint case discussions with the department of cardiology, pneumology, and angiology. The specialists of the department provide individual therapy for all patients.
