Department of Orthopedics, Trauma, Plastic, and Hand Surgery

Department of Trauma Surgery, Orthopedics, Plastic, and Hand Surgery at University Hospital Augsburg is concerned with the management of all injuries and the degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system as well as the reconstruction of large tissue defects. The medical staff of the clinic is composed of specialized teams, three of which are specialized in trauma surgery and orthopedics while one has experts in plastic and hand surgery. The department also has rehab doctors and pain therapists for early rehab patients and patients with chronic pain.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Edgar Mayr, the department offers the full range of state-of-the-art diagnostics, therapeutics for both inpatients and outpatients. The clinic is involved in associations for inpatient healing procedures such as the Severe Injury Type Procedure (SAV) as it treats 6,800 inpatients and 17,500 outpatients every year. The Hand Surgery unit has achieved excellent results for the management of acute hand injuries, deformities, and degenerative diseases. Working in cooperation with the Children’s Clinic of Augsburg as well as the Mother-Child Center Swabia, children with the full spectrum of musculoskeletal diseases are offered the optimal care.
