Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Augsburg follows the basic principle of nuclear medicine, using radioactive materials for the treatment of metabolic disorders. The German Society for Nuclear Medicine (DGN) has certified the facility with Medical Clinic II as a Center for Radioimmunotherapy for Malignant Lymphoma. The department works within the Sentinel Lymph Node Center in cooperation with the Department of Dermatology, Gynecology & Obstetrics, General, Visceral & Transplant Surgery, Urology, Physics & Radiation Protection as well as the Institute of Pathology. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Joachim Sciuk, the medical team accurately diagnoses and treats around 2,000 patients every year within the Augsburg PET Center, where the most modern instrument in nuclear medicine is available, such as SIRT (Selective Internal Radio Therapy) for the treatment of liver tumors.
