Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery & Plastic Surgery at the Schoen Clinic Dusseldorf was founded in the 1970s and is now known as a supra-regional center for patients with diseases of the ear, nose, throat, as well as malignancies of the head and neck that require surgical intervention. It has been awarded the title of Leading European Hospital as it offers its service on both an inpatient and outpatient basis where the latest scientific knowledge is applied with the highest level of medical care. The main clinical concern is directed towards providing optimal care for each patient through cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics and the experienced specialists and qualified nursing staff.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Bernhard Robbers, the medical team treats about 3,200 inpatients and 5,200 outpatients every year, many of which are sinusitis patients. The surgeons also perform over 3,100 surgical interventions annually for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The research unit works on the further development of optical aids, such as microscopes and endoscopes. The department, in cooperation with Spiggle & Theis, has developed titanium prostheses for hearing improvement which helps with the replacement of the diseased ossicles.
