The facility works closely with other specialist centers for angiology and vascular surgery for the treatment of diseases affecting both parts of the cardiovascular system. Under the leadership of Dr. Christof Wald, the staff treats over 1,800 inpatients and 1,500 outpatients and performs over 1,100 operations annually. Dr. Wald carried out the first implantation of a so-called “watchman” (mechanical atrial ear closure) in North Rhine-Westphalia and is still one of the leading experts in the field of atrial ear closure implantation.
