Department of Cardiology at Schoen Clinic Dusseldorf provides care for patients with acute and chronic heart defects and diseases. The main clinical concerns are the treatment of hypertension and heart attacks, also known as anginal pectoris, through state-of-the-art equipment. The department is experienced in performing cardiac catheter examinations, implanting stents, as well as using pacemakers and defibrillators. The medical team uses complete, extensive, non-invasive imaging studies, such as echocardiology, CT analysis, and modern MRI. The facility works closely with other specialist centers for angiology and vascular surgery for the treatment of diseases affecting both parts of the cardiovascular system. Under the leadership of Dr. Christof Wald, the staff treats over 1,800 inpatients and 1,500 outpatients and performs over 1,100 operations annually. Dr. Wald carried out the first implantation of a so-called “watchman” (mechanical atrial ear closure) in North Rhine-Westphalia and is still one of the leading experts in the field of atrial ear closure implantation.
