Department of Neurology

Department of Neurology at Ludwig-Maximilian University Hospital provides care for patients with stroke, motor, and neurological disorders. The department is one of the best neurological institutions in Germany. Specific focus the department excels at is the treatment of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. 
The research activities of the department have an effective role in modern medicine and discovering new diagnostics and therapeutics. In close cooperation with Friedrich Baur Institute, motor and neuromuscular diseases are being researched and monitored.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Günter U. Höglinger, the department treats more than 5,000 inpatients annually. The department has a specialized stroke unit as they treat nearly 700 patients with stroke every year. The department also consists of a specialized epilepsy unit where nearly 450 patients are treated every year. The department consists of advanced equipment for diagnosis and therapy for all kinds of neurological diseases. This equipment is used by highly experienced professional doctors and nursing staff to ensure the patient gets the optimal care.
