Department of Cardiosurgery at Ludwig-Maximilian University Hospital provides care for patients with heart diseases requiring surgical interventions. It is one of the best departments in this field in Germany. In cooperation with the Cardiology department and other specialized departments, the department performs more than 2,500 surgeries every year. 
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Christian M. Hagl, the department treats more than 1,500 inpatients every year. The department holds many types of research that contribute greatly to the development of cardiac surgeries. Researches on tissue engineering and infectious diseases of the cardiovascular system are now being conducted by experienced teams to treat, manage and prevent diseases.
